They should be allowed to because….
1- In middle/high school kids need to learn how to make their own food choices. They are old enough at this age to judge what they should eat.
2- They are convenient if a child forgets her/his lunch. That way they have snacks available to them.
3- They benefit the schools. A portion of the money made from vending machines go to the school.

I agree with Treealbe, taking the vending machines out of school is not the answer. If we do that, then we may as well take the snacks right out of all the grocery stores too. As a former “fat child”. Obesity was hereditary in my family. As the doctor once told my son. “Its not all your fault.” We need to learn how to eat. Its all about learning how to eat it moderation. We have become a “lazy” society. Exercise is the key. I am not saying you have to go to the gym. But when I was a child, I played outside with my friends. We didn’t sit in front of the TV or playing video games. It is not wrong, but again in moderation, its up to the parents to teach these kids now. We as parents need to make time.

yes they should. because kids get hungry..lol. :]

    Should:
Cafeteria lunches are overpriced and taste bad.

  5. Me Says:

yes cuz they give the stundents a choice and some kids don’t buy lunch cuz they don’t like the stuff they can buy but if they ha dchoices the school would also be selling more

Removing the vending machines wouldn’t result in a thinner child population. Some kids are fat regardless of what they eat. Those that are fat because of what they eat are getting most of the bad foods outside of school.
GA has just mandated that BMI’s be taken for each child twice a year and reported to schools. This will undoubtedly lead to more red tape for schools sending home letter notifying parents that kids are overweight, etc.
When so many kids are falling behind in reading, writing, and math, the last thing we need is to further burden schools with the responsibility of parenting kids. As a former fat child and substitute teacher, I can tell you that kids are not getting fat at school, and they’re not getting discipline at home.

ONLY if they are healthy snacks.
    otherwise,
    no.
it’s making children fatter and unhealthier.
    wasting the children’s money.
    saving money for the school.
