Peanuts – Healthy Snack??
Hi. I work out and I try to monitor my snacking so I’m wondering if peanuts are a decent alternative for a snack from chips. I crave a snack late in the evening, and I know the obvious health snacks (carrots, celery, etc.) but I usually want to go for chips, cookies, etc., because that’s what I like! Lately I’ve been on a peanut kick, more specifically honey roasted. I know they’re high in fat, but only a small percentage of the fat is the bad fat, saturated or whatever. My question really is, are peanuts a good way to go for a snack? Also, if they are ok, what about honey roasted? Are those peanuts significantly worse than regular plain peanuts?
Also, are there any snacks in the chip aisle that aren’t terrible for you? I’m sure the baked snacks are a better way to go, but I’m up for suggestions.

peanuts are a good snack if u are underweight and want to gain.
they are very high in fat, and although much of it is good fat, it has bad fat, and the total valories is high and can lead to weight gain. the heart associations do not recommend them.
for cnacks try carrot sticks dipped in low fat hummous mmmm yum!
oat based chips can be bought in health shops and are much less satly and procesed.
if u get nuts, choose unsalted unroasted. the nicest in that genre are unsalted unroasted cashews. or get mixed nuts. but al nuts are high in cals remember.

Yes! Peanuts are a healthy snack. Peanuts have lots of protein which is good for your body… but they are also high in calories, so a little goes a long way. Make sure when you have peanuts that you measure your serving and dont eat too much.
As far as the honey roasted goes… MMM those are good, right? Well the only problem with those is they are high in SUGAR! Sugar is a form of carbs which can break down as fat in your body if you do not burn enough during the day.
If you MUST have honey roasted peanuts… try mixing in dry roasted peanuts… maybe half and half… that way you still get the honey roasted taste, but half the sugar as a full serving. =)
In the chips aisle…..Go for the baked chips… chex mix, or pretzels are pretty healthy!
Good luck!

Oh that evening snack is a killer for me too. I love to eat something at night after dinner. Hard habit to break, no matter how big a meal I eat for dinner.
Peanuts are a good snack…I would think honey roasted are okay, but with the coating of sugar and carbs on the outside, plain would be better. As far as nuts go, Almonds are the best.
I think you would have to look at the calories on a can of regular peanuts versus honey roasted and see what the differences are.
Any nut is better than cookies or chips, even the baked ones.
Popcorn is also good if you like it.

Baked chips are a lot better fat-wise, and definitely calorie wise for snacking, plus I think they taste good.. I don’t really like salty dripping chips.. they are quite gross.
i’ve read a lot of places that nuts have high amounts of healthyh fat and protein in them, although they are kind of high in calories. they help keep you full – almonds are filling.
Have you been to http://www.thedailyplate.com ? I think it’s a great wayt o track what you’re eating, you’ll see what you shouldn’t be eating.
my opinion – stay away from really salty peanuts – high in sodium.

Pea nuts are a good snack, you could leave off the honey that would be even better.
