How Do Credit Card Transactions Work In Vending Machines.?

Hi. i need to know what is the whole process by which we are able to use our credit cards to buy things from vending machines.
I need to konw what is inside the vending machine that is able to communicate and find out how much money a person has in his card.

    It works just like a gas station pump. It connects with a network to verify the account just like a store does.
